Meagan & Joshua – Autumn Romance with a Spooky Twist at The Watson Homestead | Hiram, Maine
Meagan & Joshua
Autumn in western Maine has a particular quality to it. The light drops low early, the colors peak fast, and on the right day everything glows. Meagan and Joshua's wedding at The Watson Homestead caught all of it — the foliage at full color, the golden-hour fields, and a creative detour at the end of the night that was entirely, perfectly them.
Before the Day Began
The details were thought through — a fall palette of burnt orange, terracotta, and gold running straight through the florals, the attire, and the ceremony elements. The handfasting cord sat beside the bouquet that morning, a quiet signal of what the ceremony would hold.
Getting Ready at The Homestead
Meagan got ready in the old carriage house with her bridesmaids — floral crown, pearl jewelry, embroidered boots waiting in the corner. Across the property in the groom's house, Joshua buttoned his brown vest and adjusted a burnt orange tie. The fall palette ran straight through the attire.
A Ceremony Framed in Color
Guests gathered under the open sky as the afternoon light filtered through the trees. The arch was draped with fall florals in cream and rust. Meagan walked down with her father as the wedding party stood on either side. The vows were personal — you could tell they'd been written carefully. The handfasting that followed made the ceremony theirs.
The People Around Them
The wedding party brought the fall palette to life — rust bridesmaid dresses, brown suits, and embroidered boots. They gathered on the homestead property after the ceremony, relaxed and laughing, and the whole group moved out to the fields together for one last golden-hour frame before dinner.
Golden Hour Portraits
The open fields that surround The Watson Homestead caught the last of the afternoon light and held it. The tall grass was backlit and gold. Meagan and Joshua moved through it like they'd forgotten anyone was watching — and the antique wagon on the property gave us one last moment before the sun dropped below the tree line.
Celebrating in the Barn
The barn was warm and full. String lights crossed the beams, the sweetheart table sat beneath a neon Mr. and Mrs. sign, and the first dance to Haley Reinhart's version of "Can't Help Falling in Love" filled the floor. Toasts, cake, parent dances, and eventually a full dance floor. The barn held it all without effort.
After Dark at The Watson Homestead
As the reception wound down, Meagan had an idea. She's been a fan of spooky season long before it was a content category — and the property has a small cemetery nearby. We took a short walk after dark. She threw a denim jacket over her gown. The images came out moody and cinematic and genuinely funny in a few frames. It was unscripted and completely them.
The Close of the Night
The night ended under a clear sky. Away from the barn lights, the Milky Way was visible from the open fields. Sparklers lined the exit. It was a quiet close to a full day.
