Sunset Engagement Session by the Ocean | Kayla & Ethan at Odiorne Point State Park | Rye, New Hampshire
Odiorne Point is one of the better-kept secrets on the New Hampshire seacoast. It has the wooded trail system you'd expect from a state park, but then the land opens up to a rocky jetty and coastline that feels much more remote than it is. Kayla and Ethan's session covered the whole range: forest paths at late-afternoon light, the exposed rocks at the water's edge, and the shore as the sun went down.
September at Odiorne is a good call. The crowds from summer are gone, the foliage hasn't turned yet so you still have green in the canopy, and the sun sets early enough to hit golden hour at a reasonable time. This one came together well.
Late-Afternoon Light Through the Canopy
The session started in the wooded interior of the park. The trails there run through dense tree cover, and in late September the light filters down in a way that does a lot of work for you. Kayla and Ethan were relaxed from the start, which made things easy. We worked along the paths and into a few clearings before the light started pulling us toward the water.
Out to the Rocks
When you come out of the tree line at Odiorne and hit the rocky shoreline, it's a pretty abrupt shift. The exposure is wide open, the light comes in flat from the water, and you're suddenly working with a completely different environment. That contrast is the thing I like most about this location. It keeps the session from feeling like one long note.
The Last of the Light
We ended on the sandy stretch of beach at the south end of the park. By that point the sun was low enough that the water was picking up all of it, and the light on the shore was about as good as it gets. There wasn't much left to do except stay out of the way and let the two of them be in it.
Odiorne is worth knowing about if you're planning a New Hampshire engagement session. The combination of locations within a single park gives you real variety without covering a lot of ground, and the evening light along the shore is hard to beat. Kayla and Ethan made it easy.
