From Jordan Pond to Somes Sound: Alli & Adam's Spring Wedding on Mount Desert Island | Mount Desert, Maine
A year earlier, Adam proposed at Jordan Pond, deep in Acadia National Park. When it came time to marry, there was never really another option. Alli and Adam came back to Mount Desert Island from Louisiana, this time to a quiet ledge above Somes Sound, with just their immediate families around them. This is the island their family keeps returning to, and now it holds the biggest day of all.
Getting Ready Above Somes Sound
The house at Myrtle Ledge sits in the pines with the Sound filling every window, which makes getting ready easy to photograph and hard to rush. Orange calla lilies set the palette for the day. Alli finished her makeup at a white vanity, her mother close at hand, and laced up white lace sneakers built for gravel paths and dock boards.
Pinned inside her veil was an embroidered heart in navy, her something blue. Her bouquet spent a few minutes resting on a granite ledge at the shoreline, beside a bronze plaque of sea poetry the two of them simply liked.
A Boutonniere and a Steady Hand
Adam dressed by the tall windows in a cream suit over light blue, an orange tulip boutonniere to match the callas. His father handled the pinning, which is the kind of job fathers take seriously.
Down at the Water's Edge
They chose to see each other before the ceremony, down on the rocky beach where the pines meet the Sound. No audience, no countdown. Just the two of them on the stones, the water flat and quiet behind them.
Vows Under the Pines
The ceremony happened right on the property, under the tall pines with both families gathered close. The officiant read as the wind moved through the trees, rings were exchanged, and the whole thing felt exactly as intimate as they wanted it to be.
Out Over the Sound
The dock below the house runs straight out into Somes Sound, with the hills of Acadia stacked on the far shore and a single sailboat on its mooring. They walked out as a married couple and stayed a while. At one point something flew over worth pointing at, which is very much an island thing to happen. Some locations do most of the work for you. This one did all of it.
The Bridge Everyone Photographs, For Good Reason
A short drive up the Sound sits the white arched footbridge at Somesville, one of the most photographed spots on the island. It earns it. They had the bridge and the garden arbor mostly to themselves, spring green just coming in around the white rails and the oldest corner of the village behind them.
Ice Cream Before Dinner
Before joining their families for a private dinner in Bar Harbor, they stopped at Mount Desert Island Ice Cream. Alli changed into a second dress, shorter and laced with flowers, because ice cream on your wedding day deserves its own outfit. Cones in hand, feeding each other bites in front of the ivy trellis, they closed out the day the way this island is meant to be enjoyed.
From a proposal at Jordan Pond to vows above Somes Sound, this one belonged to the island from the start. Congratulations, Alli and Adam. Maine will be here whenever you come back. We suspect that will be often.
