Ledges to Last Light: Kirstie & Lucas' Summer Engagement Session at Reid State Park | Georgetown, Maine
Kirstie and Lucas gave us a whole evening at Reid State Park, and the park gave it right back. Granite ledges and spruce to start, a shaded path through the woods, a headland over the long curve of beach, a moon coming up over the open ocean, and a sunset that went on longer than anyone expected. White on white, bare feet, and a lot of laughing.
We started on the rocks with the light still soft and the spruce behind them. It took about two frames for the nerves to leave. Lucas kissed her cheek, Kirstie held her skirt out and laughed at him, and the rest of the session took its cue from that.
Between the ledges and the headland there is a path through the trees, and the light in there was doing something special. We walked them through it slowly. Somewhere along the way Lucas picked her up, and Kirstie did not stop laughing until he put her down.
The path opens onto a headland with the whole beach laid out below it, surf on one side and open ocean on the other. This is where the session went big. A twirl, a dip, a seat on the rocks under a sky full of clouds, and then a moon rising over the water while the sun was still up on the other side.
We turned around and the whole marsh had gone gold. The sun dropped behind the tree line and lit them from the back, and for a while every frame looked like it had been dipped in honey. Lucas also attempted a plank on the rocks. Kirstie was not impressed, and it is one of our favorite frames from the night.
Back out on the rocks for the end of it. A kiss on her hand, a look at the ring, foreheads together while the sky went from orange to violet. We stayed until the color was gone.
Ledges, a path through the spruce, a beach from above, a moon over the water, and a sunset that would not quit. Kirstie and Lucas, we cannot wait for the wedding.
