Yes at First Light: Helena & Zack’s Sunrise Proposal on Marginal Way | Ogunquit, Maine
Zack had been planning this one for weeks: a weekend trip to an unfamiliar stretch of coast, and one goal, to ask Helena to marry him at sunrise on the rocks of Marginal Way with the Atlantic doing the rest. We worked out the spot and the angles together over email, and then he took care of the hard part. What followed was a proposal at first light and a full engagement session to celebrate it.
Beside a gnarled old tree on the Perkins Cove side of the path, with the water glowing behind them and the sun just clearing the horizon, Zack got down on one knee. We were tucked away down the trail, so the whole moment felt like theirs alone. The ring, the hugs, the kisses, and a sunrise flaring through the branches.
Afterward they sat on a bench and just looked out at the water for a while, taking it all in. Then came the first selfie as an engaged couple, with Helena holding up her phone and the whole coast behind her.
From there we walked down to the footbridge at Perkins Cove, where the boats were bobbing in the harbor and the morning light was warm on both of them. Helena could not stop smiling, and Zack could not stop looking at her.
Then it was out onto the rocks. The coast here is all ledge and tide pools, and the two of them settled right into it: sitting at the edge of the water, laughing at nothing, and finally getting a proper look at the ring.
One of the benches along Marginal Way turned out to be the best seat in the house. Helena curled up against Zack, the coastal brush glowed behind them, and we let them be for a while.
Out on the point with nothing but ocean behind them, the two of them stopped posing and just played: kissing with their feet in the air, laughing, and swinging hands on the rocks.
We finished along the shoreline, where the wild roses and dark rocks caught the morning light. Close hugs, long kisses, and a lot of laughing, which is exactly how a day like this should end.
A sunrise, a spot on the rocks, and a yes. Congratulations, Helena and Zack.
