Coastal Engagement Photo Spots in Maine
A few of the seaside places we keep coming back to, from Ogunquit up to Georgetown, where the cliffs, sand, and last gold light make an easy backdrop for two people in love.
Why the coast
An engagement session is a low-pressure way to get comfortable in front of the camera together before the wedding, and it gives you a set of images you will actually use, for save the dates, the guest book, the wall by the door.
These three run south to north, from the cliffs at Ogunquit up to an island off Portland and the wide beaches at Georgetown. Different stretch of coast, different mood, all within an easy drive.
Perkins Cove & Marginal Way
Ogunquit, MaineOne of the most romantic stretches on the whole coast. The Marginal Way path hugs the cliffs with ocean on one side, and Perkins Cove sits at the end with its working harbor and little pedestrian drawbridge. Elegant, walkable, and packed with backdrops. We have shot it enough times that we know where the light lands.
- Marginal Way. A mile and a quarter of oceanside path, with cliffs and quiet benches tucked along the way.
- Perkins Cove. A colorful harbor and the iconic drawbridge for a nautical, storybook feel.
- Rocky coastline. Waves breaking behind you on the classic Maine ledge.
- Golden hour. Warm light coming off the water as the sun drops over the harbor.
The coast gives you everything in one afternoon: sand, cliffs, marsh, and the last gold light of the day.
Peaks Island
Casco Bay, Portland, MaineA short ferry from downtown Portland drops you on Peaks, and the pace changes the moment you step off the boat. Pebbly beaches, cottage gardens spilling over picket fences, an old pier with dinghies pulled up on the sand. It feels like a small getaway folded into one evening, which is exactly the mood you want for a session.
- The ferry over. The Casco Bay Lines ride is part of the fun and sets the island pace before you even start.
- Rocky beaches and coves. Quiet shoreline with the mainland glowing across the water.
- Cottage gardens. Hydrangeas and picket fences for the softer, warmer frames.
- Pier and dinghies. Weathered wood and wooden boats for that classic Maine texture.
Reid State Park
Georgetown, MaineA coastal gem that hands you three or four different backdrops in one visit. Wide sandy beaches give way to rocky outcrops and tidepools, with golden marsh behind. It is the kind of place where an hour of walking gives you a full range of looks.
- Sandy beaches. Mile and Half Mile beaches, with soft light and gentle surf for easy, romantic walking.
- Rocky coastline. Textured ledge and tidepools for the dramatic, quintessentially Maine frames.
- Golden marsh. At the end of the day the marsh warms up and turns quiet and intimate.
- Sunset over the Atlantic. Open horizons for that last stretch of gold light.
